The December Edition

Cheltenham Christmas Market

Cheltenham Christmas Market is back. And it’s bigger and better than ever. With stalls housed in charming wooden chalets, pick up unique treats, gifts and decorations which will be lining the Promenade. Mulled wine will be flowing plus there’s plenty of food to tuck into, from giant bratwurst from the iconic German Schwenkegrill, an exotic selection of ostrich, wild boar and crocodile burgers, Italian macaroons, liquorice, fudge and the very best in cheeses and chutneys. Splash out further and head to the Cheltenham Christmas Craft Market, just a short walk away on the High Street, to snap up more goodies.

An evening with Jack Dee in Cheltenham Town Hall

Everyone’s favourite grumbler Jack Dee is coming to town as part of Off The Telly – his first stand-up tour in seven years. Packed full of fun, laughter and searing sarcasm, gear up for Jack’s thoughts on charity fundraisers, secondhand shops, electric cars, smashed avocado and much more. Having honed his skill since 1986, he has appeared on pretty much every panel show and comedy quiz possible on British television, continuing to host his legendary BBC Radio 4 show I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue. Snap up Jack’s new book, What is Your Problem, too, where he dishes out advice on life’s biggest dilemmas.

Christmas wreath-making at TOAST Cheltenham

Make your front door the envy of your street and create a stunning wreath, using fresh foliage and dried decorative adornments, topped off with a hand-dyed silk ribbon. And it’s a keeper too – the wreath will be structured around a large brass hoop, which you can reuse year after year. In between learning the craft, enjoy mulled wine and mince pies to congratulate (or console yourself) on how your wreath is turning out. Finish off the evening by snapping up a piece or two from TOAST’s latest collection which remains as gorgeous as ever, handmade by artisans around the world.

Cara Dillon at Pittville Pump Room

One of Ireland’s top folk singers Cara Dillon is returning to Cheltenham for her highly praised Christmas show, ‘Upon A Winter’s Night’. Described by Mojo magazine as having ‘quite possibly the world’s most beautiful female voice’, this extraordinary Irish singer has been captivating audiences, winning awards and achieving exceptional acclaim for over 20 years. On the night, she’ll be performing a collection of ancient and modern songs, joined by her band who weave celtic and folksy rhythms alongside wonderful carols. In short, ‘enchantment aplenty’, said The Independent.
